Would anyone like to suggest a subject or software for a SE2T2 how-to video? There’s one posted on the Media page now about starting a Facebook page for your district. There are a few more in the works on Facebook related subjects, and there will be one on using this website.

Posting videos online? Powerpoint for sup’ts? Starting a blog? Let us know what you want, or else we’ll just do whatever seems interesting to us.

Do we know yet if it’s possible to convert a PowerPoint to a podcast in Garage Band? That topic came up at the podcasting workshop at Midwinter conference.

Yes, that is very do-able. The issue, as with many tech questions, is that there are a few different ways to accomplish this task.

The easiest is probably to start a new podcast file in Garageband. Then open your Powerpoint in Apple’s Keynote program. You can then click and drag each slide from Keynote, into the podcast track in Garageband. Record your narration for each slide after adding it, so the slides are spaced out correctly.

If you don’t have Keynote, you can open Powerpoint and Save your slides as images (Save as>then choose PNG or JPG from the Format menu). Save them to your desktop, and then in Garageband drag them over from the Desktop.

Another option would be to use a screen capture program like Camtasia. That will let you run your slide show and speak while recording your screen and voice synchronously. This may be a little more natural then having to pause and drag the slides from Keynote to Garageband.

Instructions for the Keynote/Garageband method are here: http://www.powertolearn.com/articles/teaching_with_technology/article.shtml?ID=79

A detailed PDF with screenshots and instructions for using Powerpoint to save as images and import them into Garageband: http://blog.cortland.edu/techinfo/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/enhancedpodcastppt08_2.pdf

This article has a good overview of a few different techniques, including uploading your powerpoint to the Slideshare website: http://web20teach.blogspot.com/2007/07/podcast-powerpoint-slidecast-mashup.html
